How to Cite a Dictionary Online in MLA

Include the title of the definition/entry, the name of the dictionary, the edition, and the year published. Also include any information about the editor, compiler, etc.

Structure:

“Entry Name.” Dictionary Title, compiled by First M. Last, Publisher/Sponsor, Year Published, page numbers.

Example:

“Citation.” Merriam Webster Online, compiled by Jeffery Ames, Merriam Webster, 2011, p. 65.

Make sure to:

  • Provide the advanced information for the dictionary if it is available.
