How to Cite Sheet Music in Chicago/Turabian

Sheet music should generally be cited like a book (or chapter, etc., as appropriate). If the title is in a language other than English, include the original title with the translation after. The structure and example below will show you how to cite sheet music in notes-bibliography style using the 17th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style.

Citing Sheet Music

Citation Structure:

Note:

1. First Name Last Name, Title of the Piece, ed. Editor First Name Last Name (if applicable) (City, State: Publisher, Year).

Bibliography: 

Last Name, First Name. Title of the Piece. Edited by Editor First name Last name (if applicable). City, State: Publisher, Year.

Citation Example:

Note:

1. Ludwig van Beethoven, Moonlight Sonata, Op. 27, No. 2 (Complete), ed. Willard A. Palmer (Los Angeles: Alfred Publishing, 1986).

Bibliography:
